What owners report

Most praised
  • Tank water stopped carrying the plastic taste of the old garden hose
  • It hooks up quickly at campgrounds and stays kink-free on the pad
  • The 50 ft length reaches most campground spigots without an extra join
Common complaints
  • It stiffens noticeably on cool mornings and needs a moment to relax
  • Dragging it across gravel leaves scuffs faster than on a rubber hose
  • Coiling it tightly for storage takes patience because the wall holds its shape

What owners report

Most praised
  • Watering the patio beds finally feels effortless instead of a chore to put off
  • It coils into a small neat loop that hangs on a single hook
  • The soft wall unrolls smoothly without kinks at every bend
Common complaints
  • A large sprinkler barely turns on it, which surprised buyers used to 5/8 in hoses
  • Owners handle it gently over gravel because the wall feels delicate
  • Visitors assume it is a toy hose until they see it watering normally

Our recommendation

Both hoses are drinking-water safe, and that shared rating is where the similarity ends. The Camco is the RV hookup hose: a standard 5/8 in bore, a reinforced PVC wall and a 50 ft reach built for campground pads and tank filling. The Water Right 400 Series is the garden hose that happens to be safe: slim, ultra-light polyurethane for beds, patios and pet water, with a flow rate that will not run a large sprinkler. Choose the Camco for tanks and hookups, and the Water Right for gardens and pets.

Bore and flow

The Camco's 5/8 in bore fills an RV tank at a proper rate, while the Water Right's 7/16 in bore flows about 4 gallons per minute, which suits hand watering and small nozzles but starves large sprinklers. Flow is the clearest functional difference between them.

Weight and flexibility

The Water Right is dramatically lighter and softer, at about 3 lb for 50 ft, and it coils into a small loop. The Camco is a stiffer PVC hose that holds its shape and needs more effort to coil, especially in cool weather. For daily garden carrying, the Water Right wins easily.

Where each belongs

The Camco belongs at a campground spigot, a boat hookup or any tank fill where a standard bore and a long track record matter. The Water Right belongs in a garden, on a patio or at a pet bowl, where light handling and soft flexibility matter more than maximum flow. Using either in the other's job works, but neither is at its best there.

Durability and storage

The Camco's reinforced PVC wall tolerates campground handling, walking over and repeated hookups. The Water Right's soft polyurethane prefers smooth ground and gentle handling, and it rewards that care with a long, easy life. Storage is simpler for the Water Right, whose small coil fits anywhere.

Choose Camco TastePURE 22793 50 ft Drinking Water Hose if…

  • You fill an RV or boat tank regularly
  • You need a standard 5/8 in flow rate
  • Campground hookups are the main job
  • You want the long-serving category standard

Choose Water Right 400 Series 50 ft 7/16 in. Polyurethane Hose if…

  • You water beds, patios and raised beds daily
  • Light weight and easy coiling matter most
  • You fill pet bowls or water vegetables
  • Large sprinklers are not part of the job

Questions, answered

Are both safe for drinking water?

Yes. Both are stated to be free of lead, BPA and phthalates and safe for drinking water. The difference is not safety but bore, weight and intended use.

Can the Water Right fill an RV tank?

It can, but slowly: the slim bore fills at about 4 gallons per minute, so a large tank takes noticeably longer than with the Camco. For regular tank filling, the Camco is the better tool.

Can the Camco water a garden?

Yes, for occasional watering it works fine. For daily garden use, its stiffer PVC wall and heavier handling make the Water Right or a hybrid polymer hose the more pleasant choice.
