Tackle Box Dividers Sliding and Lures Mixing: Fixes (2027)
Why tackle box dividers slide, lures mix and lids pop open, and how to fix each cause in 2027, from packing habits to box choice.

Dividers slide and lures mix for a handful of fixable reasons: a box carried on its side, compartments overloaded, dividers that do not seat fully, or a lid forced over lures that are too tall. Work through the fixes in order, and most mixing problems disappear without buying a new box.
Small hooks and weights slip under dividers
Seat every divider fully into its slot, with no gap at the bottom, and keep the smallest tackle in the smallest compartments. If a divider will not seat, check for a bent slot or a divider from another box that does not match. Carry the box flat in a bag, not on its side, so gravity stops working against the dividers.
Lures mix together when the box tips in a bag
Pack the box so compartments are full but not overloaded, with no lure standing proud of its compartment. Use a bag with a tray slot that holds the box flat, or a rack that keeps boxes upright. A box rattling loose in a big bag will mix no matter how good its dividers are.
The lid will not close over tall lures
Move tall lures to a deep box, like the 3600 Deep or a deep EDGE variant, instead of forcing a standard depth lid. Forcing the lid bends dividers, pops latches and lets lures migrate. Measure the tallest lure before choosing a box depth, and keep one deep box in the system for exactly those lures.
Latches pop open in transit
Check the latch for wear, dirt or a bent catch, and clean it before replacing the box. Use a ProLatch or sealed box for transport in a bouncing vehicle, and keep the box flat with the latch side up. A latch that pops once will pop again, so a worn latch is a reason to retire that box to indoor storage.
Questions, answered
Should I glue dividers in place?
No, not as a first fix. Glued dividers cannot be moved when the lure collection changes, and they make cleaning harder. Seat dividers properly, pack compartments sensibly, and carry the box flat first. Glue only a divider that is genuinely damaged and cannot seat any other way.
Why do soft plastics stain other lures?
Soft plastic baits can bleed colour and soften finishes when they sit against hard baits, especially in heat. Keep soft plastics in their bags or in a dedicated tray, away from painted hard baits, and the staining problem largely disappears.

- Bank fishing punishes every box that was designed for a boat deck. Weight matters, one-handed access matters, and the ability to move spots without repacking matters more than total capacity. This ranking therefore puts carry style first: a sling for moving, a compact bag for a settled spot, and a tray box for the angler who walks a short distance and stays put.The Best Tackle Boxes for Bank Fishing (2027)
- Waterproof is the most abused word in tackle storage, so this ranking separates three levels and never blends them. Sealed boxes with an O-ring are first, because they are the only boxes that keep water out when closed. Saltwater resistant bags are next, because they survive spray and decks even though they are not sealed. Plain latching trays come last, and only where their rust protection or price earns them a place despite the weaker seal. The Best Waterproof Tackle Boxes (2027)
- A tackle bag is judged on what it carries, not on how it looks empty. Tray fit comes first, because a bag that does not take the angler's existing trays is a storage problem, not a solution. Fabric toughness and pockets come next, and carry comfort decides the rest, because a bag that hurts to carry stays in the car. This ranking covers the full range from a compact five-box bag to a saltwater XL bag.The Best Tackle Bags (2027)
