What owners report

Most praised
  • The shared calendar widgets end the daily question of who is doing school pickup, because the answer sits on the wall
  • Fire TV turns dead kitchen time into proper television without adding another screen to the room
  • The wall mount hardware in the box makes installation a single-afternoon job for confident DIY households
Common complaints
  • Buyers who skipped the stand discover too late that countertop placement was not the default plan
  • The panel washes out in bright kitchens when mounted opposite a window
  • Remote control limits annoy households that expected one remote to run the whole screen

What owners report

Most praised
  • From the far counter the calendar and recipe text stay readable in a way no smaller Show manages
  • Replacing a small kitchen television with one panel that also runs the smart home wins over sceptical partners
  • Video calls on the big panel feel closer to talking through a window than through a phone
Common complaints
  • Wall mounting turns into a proper DIY project, with stud-finding and cable routing nobody budgeted for
  • Owners with the panel near the dining table say the screen dominates conversation at mealtimes
  • Close-up viewers notice the Full HD softness that disappears at proper across-the-room distance

Our recommendation

Both displays share the same camera, the same hub features, the same Fire TV and the same widget system, so the comparison is almost entirely about size. The Echo Show 15 is the right wall display for most kitchens: large enough to read across the room, small enough to mount without a project. The Echo Show 21 is the right display only when the room is large and open-plan, because only then does its extra size buy readability rather than dominance.

Size and readability

The Show 21's 21 inch panel nearly doubles the Show 15's viewing area and stays legible from the far side of an open-plan room. The Show 15's 15.6 inch panel reads well across a standard kitchen but strains at living-room distances. Measure your viewing distance before choosing: under ten feet, the Show 15 wins on proportion; over it, the Show 21 earns its size.

Mounting

Both include wall mounts, anchors and templates. The Show 15 at 4.96 lb mounts like a large picture frame. The Show 21 at 10.7 lb mounts like a small television and needs a stud. The mounting effort, not the price gap, is the real step up between them.

Resolution

Both panels are Full HD, which means the Show 21 spreads the same pixels over a larger area. At across-the-room distance that does not matter. Up close, the Show 15 looks crisper. If viewers sit near the wall, the smaller panel is the sharper buy.

Room presence

The Show 15 reads as a family board on the wall. The Show 21 reads as a television on the wall, and it changes the room's feel at mealtimes and in the evening. Households that want a noticeboard should buy the 15; households that want a kitchen TV should buy the 21.

Choose Amazon Echo Show 15 (2nd Gen) Smart Display if…

  • Your kitchen is standard-sized and viewers stand within ten feet
  • You want wall mounting without a stud-finding project
  • You want the crisper close-up picture
  • You want a family board, not a second television

Choose Amazon Echo Show 21 Smart Display if…

  • Your kitchen is open-plan and viewers stand far from the wall
  • You want a genuine kitchen television with Fire TV
  • Your wall can carry a 10.7 lb panel on a stud
  • Your household's week needs the largest shared canvas available

Questions, answered

Do the Show 15 and Show 21 run the same software?

Essentially, yes. Both run the same Alexa display software, the same widgets, the same Fire TV and the same smart home hub features. The difference is the panel size and the mounting weight, not the experience.

Can either display sit on a counter?

Both can, but only with separately sold stands, and both are awkward on a counter. These are wall displays by design. If countertop placement is the plan, the Show 11 is the better purchase in every way that matters.

Is the Show 21 worth the step up in price?

Only when the room justifies it. In a large open-plan kitchen, the readability gain is real and daily. In a standard kitchen, the extra inches buy wall presence, not usefulness, and the money is better spent on the Show 15 plus its stand or accessories.
